The One-And-Only Rule Is Not To Stick To The Rules If You Want To Play Safe

You must be out of your mind, Hilda. Everyone in everywhere is emphasizing the importance of abiding by the rules and regulations of their respective fields or standing as dutifully as possible, to keep up a good image, to follow suit, to comply with whatever instructions enforced by their bosses or supervisors, to oppose is impossible and not necessary since they want to survive, to secure their jobs. It is most common with the law-abiding public servants, shop employees and even the military in term of rules and regulations. Winter comes and summer goes, these people have become so familiar and natural with " acting under orders " that is : one order, one action to carry out their service or duty. Nothing is more right other than this but in fact, other people find them rather inflexible and inefficient while handling certain matter.

Human beings are born with a brain which is supposedly to be sharp and creative but once they start to cling to the deadlocked rules and regulations set up to be obeyed, over time, they will become stiff and rigid as far as flexibility is concerned. Just like the norm of the 9 to 5 white-collar workers' attitudes, they lack a fighting spirit as compared to other professions. Let alone flexibility or changes in critical circumstances.

Have you heard of this ?

An old woman was at the bank counter with a check she would like to have it exchanged for money (cash).

The bank clerk said to her, " according to our bank's regulation, you must produce your Identity card for proof."

The old woman listened, shocked, mouth opened wide and was at a loss for words for a few long seconds. At last, she found her voice, trembling and small, almost chokingly , " but son, I am your mother. "

Can you feel the sarcasm of a rule?

My cousin sticks to her belief / rule that she would never ever let her kids eat any snacks or a bite of something 30 minutes before mealtime (such as lunch or dinner). Her reason for that is if they touched any snacks (even just a light one) they will not have an appetite when mealtime comes.

This amazes me. I let my kids eat anything anytime. No problem, no rule ! They have the best appetite ever !

It was alleged that during Bill Clinton's ruling period, a certain Head-of-State was ready to pay him a visit in the United States. Before he left for America, he consulted his interpreter to teach him how to communicate with Clinton. The interpreter said, " once you see Clinton, you say : How are you ? Clinton will say : Fine, thank you. And you ? Then you just have to say : Me too ! " that will be enough.

On that visiting day they met, the Head-of-State was a bit too hasty and he blurted out , " Who are you ? "

Clinton was shocked but he kept his cool and humorously he said , " I am Hillary's husband. "

At this juncture, the Head-of-State was seen smiling and nodding his head at Hillary, who was beside Clinton and reassuringly, said to Clinton, " Me too ! "

Be flexible is the only practical way for people to overcome any provisional challenge.

Thanks Brianna for your wonderful comment. It's good to have certain flexible rules in life and well, anything will change followed by time and space and environment. Who say we have to stick to rules all our lives ? That doesn't really work.

You have a good day, Brianna .

We live in a world where flattery (Following strict rules, without using common sense) work more than our common sense in our daily life. Those who are in the nature commander wants more flattery than working as it satisfies his selfishness. He who knows he will be successful in life without working. Do you know that dogs know this more than humans. It do nothing, except to say yes the boss by moving the tail and his boss care the dog for life for the satisfaction of his selfishness and nothing else. Those who use their common sense to become the leader herself, one day, that's my feeling

Every country has her own rules I wouldn't know too much but I think some dogs are smarter than some humans in certain ways especially those trainable ones. I agree with you Gaurav.

Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts.

I LOVE your title and this article :) You have me laughing out loud, Hilda at the Clinton episode! I get so frustrated at the kind of "rules" your first story illustrates. And your kids have a wonderful mother...

Hi Jennifer, thank you for your comment. You got the jokes I was telling. Many a time I kept chuckling. My purpose is always to make people laugh and you are able to catch it.

A wonderful mother sometimes is not a very professional parent. I hope you know what I mean.

Have a good day Jennifer !

Oh hilarious! Thank you for sharing. I know that I kept the famous singer out of the concert hall that I was supposed to be guarding when I was in high school. I thought it was just kids fooling around - and I kept on holding the door and throwing my whole weight into holding it closed. Finally, the towering giant of a guy pulled hard enough to get through. Boy, was I embarrassed. He didn't let me forget it all night long, either. He kept on repeating between songs that he almost didn't make it to the show because of me.

hahaha... now it's my turn to (LOL) Liesl, I can imagine you holding tightly the door from anyone entering and the ONE had to force himself to get in because you were following some rules passed down to you and altogether, some funny scenario just had to happen because of your innocence at that time. (don't feel bad) (GRIN)

LOL- good article Hilda- Humans do seem to be addicted to routine and habitual behavior- I think most people do it so they don't have to think too much- just go by rote...... Thanks- Always- Ella

Ella, thanks for your understanding here. This is meant to be humor and you are right, stick to routines/timetables/habitual behavior/regulation etc don't always work well. Be flexible and changeable wherever needed in that situation is the wisest.

So true Ms. Cang. We seem to be taught too often to ignore our common sense. The reason for that I believe is so the superior can maintain control over you, and therefore your actions. Often times it's for benevolent reasons, they fear you may hurt yourself, etc. Other times it's not so benevolent, but either way they produce the same result, which can be dangerous to a society, particularly if they are wrong, and often times they are. Great article.

Hi David, you are right to the point here. Thanks for reading and commenting. Rules may be rules but if they can be "pushed the boat along with the current" = subject to change , I think more unfavorable incidents will be avoided.

Yes, I see too many creatures of routine everyday. You know what they say, "Variety is the spice of life"

Also, the first rule about making rules: Don't make too many rules. The second rule about making rules, always follow rule #1.

I see what you mean, add some "spice" to make the monotonous daily routine a little bit "delicious" I can't agree more. Imagine if we have to live according to rules, how frustrating life would be.

Thanks for your insightful comment, Brombergs 2 Cents.

Good article Hilda. I think most of us who submit to SearchWarp have problems sticking 100% to the rules that structure our lives. I think that along the way we have exhibited a small amount of rebellion here and there. Thanks for writing this.

Hi Bob, thanks for reading and commenting. As long there are humans there are rules and guess not 100% of the people abide by them (rules) but that depends on the individuals.

Be flexible and changeable in what situation will always be beneficial thus eliminating embarrassment or even risk. I didn't actually want people to go against their rules (of the house) mainly, I am being humorous .

Thanks for reading Hyun Soung.
