Oh, It's Ok! You Can't Bring It To Heaven. What Exactly You Can't Bring It To Heaven ?

One evening some time last week, shortly after our potluck dinner at a friend's house, we were just getting excited to play Scrabble , searching for pens and paper when we suddenly heard a loud, high-pitched "P-L-U-N-K" coming out from the kitchen. All four of us ladies stared at one another in confusion trying to figure out the " what's the matter ? " and I noticed our husbands paid no attention to the sound while they were having a glass of beer and peanuts in their mouths at the other table.

" Was it my plate ? "  I said but I remembered I didn't use a breakable plate for my dish. Then Lily said, "Mine is a stainless steel. "  Then Dora said, " Sounds like mine. "

Winnie the host went to check with her servant in the kitchen and came back to announce ,           " Dora, I'm sorry, my servant dropped your plate into pieces, by accident. "

" Oh, it's ok ! You can't bring it to Heaven ! " said a smiling Dora, light-heartedly.

" Oh, my God ! The plate was such a nice looking one ! " chipped in Lily.

" Come on, don't let a small thing spoil our mood. Let's start the game ! " Rushed Dora.

Undeniably, I was attracted to that fateful piece of  mottled, oval in shape chinaware that Dora used to hold her dish - a whole roasted duck in plum sauce, orderly arrayed only some 30 minutes ago while we were enjoying ourselves the various dishes we each cooked or bought. Never did we expect that in less than an hour, the china was shattered to pieces completely.

Winnie apologised. " I don't know what happened to Myra lately but I think she is getting old and clumsy ! "  Myra is an Indonesian who has been working for Winnie over the past twenty years, quite a faithful old dog though but time has no mercy. She too, is finding her ability in handling the general house chores a bit slow and on and off makes some trivial errors here and there, unintentionally. But Winnie still  keeps her because she needs her around with the chores when she goes golfing  five times a week. A little fall short is excusable. Plus, Winnie has a big heart as well.

We don't live in this world forever. All that we have will leave us behind some day, not one single item can we bring to Heaven. No way !

Now that we have, we can make use of it, we can enjoy it and spare and share it with the have-nots. Do not hold any worldly thing so dear for we know when the time comes, all that don't hold any significance to us anymore.cheeky

A professor had a habit of collecting books. He would not sleep in peace if he didn't get the book he wanted but somehow, he could always get the book he was looking for so he had a huge collection of books in his house and in his study but one night as he suddenly woke up from his sleep/dream, to his amazement, he saw that his large collection of books had nothing to do with him - those were not even his originally and why should he be so concerned, those were only books after all.  From then on, he never bothered to keep as many books as before.

The more things we hold dear to us, the more heavy the burden is on our shoulders !

What do we take with us? How much we've loved and been loved, I think. Definitely don't take bank accounts and plates and things! I don't think there's anything wrong with enjoying them while we're here, though...

Definitely not wrong for anyone to enjoy the things around us and we better do because we know the things will be gone when we are gone altogether. No plate no spoon etc .

Thank you for reading and commenting Jenn, always ! HUGS !

Hi Sydney, When I was your age (are you in your sweet 20s ? ) I too, held on to many things I thought that would last forever but I must say, all the things I thought precious were actually futile but because we are humans and humans must go through a series of life stages and lessons so that's it...

Objects and worries are the culprits of depression, stress and so forth. Get rid of them Sydney !

I enjoyed your story, it has a very good message about not getting too attached to material things. I have lots of books too....probably much more than I will ever read and yet I keep getting more! Maybe I am waiting for the wisdom in the pages to jump out and enter my head!! Maybe I will print out your story and put it on my book shelf, then read it the next time I am thinking of buying more books!! :-)

Hi Tony, thanks for reading and commenting. Asides from books, there are other things we don't really use them but we keep them and that occupies our space. To give away is the best thing to do.

I had a gravy boat that my grandmother used as a young woman. I used it whenever I could for dinners with my family. I would always make a point of mentioning to my children where the gravy boat came from, and talk a little bit about their great-grandmother. People and memories of them are what I hold dear and some 'things' bring back the memories. Other than that, I agree, things are just things. Great article Hilda. By the way the gravy boat broke, just like your friends plate but I"m glad I used it for all the years I did and didn't just have it placed out of sight somewhere collecting dust.

Hi Brianna, a gravy boat ? How big ? You are wise to have made good use of it and it didn't just gather dust in one corner, that it did carry some significance until the last. This is one wise move .

Thanks for reading and commenting. Great day to you !

This one was amazing Hilda. A beautiful story, and well-narrated in proper sequence. I enjoyed reading thoroughly every word of it. Apart from overcoming attachment, I also realized that it is more important to have a big heart to be patient with other people's misdoings. Wonderful!

I loved every word you put in this humble article of mine DM, and am glad you enjoyed it . I should have elaborated it in greater capacity. Nothing can compare with a big heart, yes, it's true !

Thanks for your kind comment.

Hilda, as always, you are an excellent storyteller. What you said is true about not being attached to worldly things. Have you seen on TV the program, "Confession of a hoarder". It really makes you think.

Thanks for sharing this well-written piece, Hilda.

Blessings.

Hi Nenita, thanks for your commenting and well, I have seen a part of "Confession of a hoarder" and it amazed me their want of junks to an extent. Haha...Now, you stirred up my inspiration perhaps, what makes one a hoarder may have something to do with his/her upbringing. Interesting !

Have a nice day, Nenita.
