On 25th December, 1996, as more than half of the people all over the world were celebrating their Christmas Day merrily, something astonishing happened , sort of without any prior indication or warning, a severe storm came to attack a small town named Keningau in Sabah on the night of Christmas. It was believed that the wind and rain were so strong that many people who lived in the village wooden houses were being swept away either in their sleep or awake moments of death and fear, helplessly as the storm was so sudden. Most of the victims were said to be migrants from Indonesia and the Phillipines as construction workers including some locals as well. About 300 lost their lives in this natural disaster. The culprit was known as Storm Greg or the Angry Greg for its impact was furious and deadly fierce.
As I was writing this down, I recalled the same scenario happened merely 2 months back. I was awoken by a ray of thunder and striking lightning in the wee hours of the night. I woke my husband up pointing out at the window. " Look, look, It's so frightening, like God is so angry wih us all. "
So, after the Christmas night disaster in Keningau, many bewildered people would put the blame on God . They said the victims might have indulged in some indecent activity or committed some evil deeds that angered God in the form of such deadly punishment on that fateful Christmas night.
Then, 3 years later, Tropical Storm Hilda swirled around in a jiffy as a surprise ( why do I have a name as this weather destroyer ?) on the 5th of January 1999. She caused much havoc around the State including a famous island named Sipadan Turtle Island, mainly floods. 5 deaths and thousand affected.
These are the two severe weather experiences I ever knew of.

Top-level comments on this article: (3 total)It must have been terrifying, Hilda. I guess it's even more scary for people who believe God is punishing them. I'd love to a stormy name!It sure was terrifying and scary if you saw it face to face, Jennifer. A stormy name mine is. Unbelievable !
Sounds like a terrible one if your house shook! I know some people think it is the wrath of God--I don't believe that at all but it makes you wonder why some die in these storms and some do not. Storms never frightened me---now heights is another thing.............Actually, I had exaggerated the plot in my writing about my house being shaken but the moment was terrifying as if a solid concrete building would be torn down. Right now, it's raining again.
I like it
