What Do I Want For Christmas, For A Change ?

Good question and so timely the assignment for this week. Everyone wants something for Christmas. I am no exception. Last year, all I wanted for Christmas was my two front teeth and I had them fixed up nicely, done. I now can smile and laugh confidently without embarrassment. (LOL)

However, this year, what I want for Christmas is something else. I am no longer a little girl who craves for fanciful stuff for Christmas like I used to, so vain whenever Christmas was around but those were the days.

What does Christmas mean to you ? In the past, my excitement, along with anxiety grew when the shopping complex and the malls couldn't wait to hoist their attractive banners, Christmas trees and the twinkling colorful lights decorations to meet the commercial demand for the festive season. Sometimes they did it from as early as the 15th of November to jump start with the decorations. Looks like a fashion.

But why the anxiety ? I do not know but often time, when a season like Christmas is around the corner, certain things may have you worry about like what to buy for your loved ones and friends, you do really need to set a budget within your ability. Then you need to browse around from one shop to another, to compare prices and quality, such is always a mundane affair to me.

Then, I was expecting someone's lavish Christmas dinner party if it was not a barbeque which I don't really fancy, food such as a whole stuffed turkey, a variety of delicious Christmas dishes, wines, cakes followed by exchanging presents. This could happen on Christmas Eve ( before the midnight service) or on Christmas day.

As I grow older, all the Christmas celebrations don't seem very significant and important as when I was younger and eager. Our Pastor reminded us that Christmas isn't meant to be partying only. Christmas is a time to be thankful for, a time to celebrate together, a time to contribute to and a time to grow deeper spiritually.

So, this year, what lies in my wishing list for Christmas is a quiet time to be around with my close family as one, perhaps we could make it to Mt. Kinabalu for a break ?
