One Slap, Two Punches That Saved All The Trouble

Shortly after I was married, I left my 9-5 job to work with my husband, Nick in his electrical shop which was mainly dealing in electrical home appliances such as TV, video player (those years) fan, radio, refrigerator, freezer, vaccum cleaner, hair dryer, toaster, oven, washer, juice/food blender and other misc items. There were 3 workers and one technician who was assigned but was on a on-call basis, meaning to say because he had a proper job elsewhere, whenever our customer had a problem with the goods we sold, we would call him over since his office was only a few blocks away from ours, no big deal, after all, he had been a family friend for years and a skilled hand with faulty electrical goods.

One fine day, a customer walked in with a video player that he had purchased from us some time ago and it must still be carrying a warranty then. He complained that the machine was not functioning properly, the picture was blurred and the sound was noisy and he insisted that he wanted the video back before we closed shop if possible which was just a few hours away. Nick was dealing with this hasty man since the technician was not around till the next day as his newly pregnant wife was suffering from severe morning sickness.

After the customer had left, Nick was examining the video for a while and shook his head , he then connected the plug and switch and pressed the ON and OFF buttons to no avail. Suddenly I saw him slap the machine and punched two times and presto, there came the picture and sound, loud and clear, good as new.

He was boasting about how this simple technique saved him a lot of trouble and mind you, the hasty customer had not one time returned for a second complaint but he continued to buy other items from us following that incident.

That's hilarious, Hilda! That used to be quite an effective way of fixing things! And amen to what you said in response to Rick - re cheap stuff from China.

Oh Jennifer, if that works, I'm sure it works for others as well. Some electrical goods do need a good pat on and off. It did happen as I mentioned. Re cheap stuff from China, not all are unreliable.lol.

I have done that and it worked for me too. As a matter of fact I have an electrical water pump that must work or it will not pump any water into the house. It has stopped twice in the last 12 months and I was worried about calling a repairman. I kicked the electrical part and it started working each time--both times--I swear. Ha-ha--I should have been an electrician!!!!
