Why Did I End Up In The Hospital On Valentine's Day ?

3 years ago, I spent my valentine's day in the hospital, while others spent theirs either in the candle lit restaurants, wined and dined, or any special romantic way  they wanted it, with their loved ones, perhaps being pampered with roses and heart-shaped box of chocolates but I was in the hospital that's all I knew. Worst of all, I couldn't do anything. My heart was so tense and anxious, filled with rays of uncertainty I didn't know why. I didn't tell the doctors or the nurses when they came in the room to make their rounds every so often. The waiting was excruciating if you know what I am talking about. Hospital always gives me a sense of nervousness and unrest especially when I have to deal in a situation I know it's not mine to determine or control over any consequence that may arise, basically speaking.

Then, roughly after 2pm, on that valentine's day, 14th February, 2010, I heard a strange, unfamiliar yet very clear loud cry that I had not heard in a long long time and the minute I composed myself, I was holding it clumsily but trying to be gingerly in my arms which I had also not done it in a long long time. My cute little granddaughter was born, a precious gift for our valentine's day celebration.

Anyway, the whole episode was, I volunteered to accompany my full term pregnant daughter to the hospital for delivery when her husband's excuse was that he was afraid of sleeping in a hospital, let alone seeing blood whatsoever. It was fine, I thought, young fathers are not too brave nowadays. But the children's hospital is actually a new and spacious building, fully equipped with modern facilities except may be the air condition is a bit too cold.

Summer comes and winter goes, Shantelle turns 3 this year today. We always make this day with double celebrations. It can be a feast at home if going out means a trend of fashion, to avoid hustle and bustle from the crowd, we save it. However, we don't save richly baked cakes and chocolates that we eat them heartily, after dinner.

Valentine's day has a lot to offer, to those who are loving and caring and to those who are less fortunate, there are other means of contributing good wishes during this time of event such as going to the old folk's home to give the old people a clean hair cut, to give each of them new clothes and shoes , to show them that there are people who do care out there. This is one of the happenings on valentine's day although valentine's day means "lover's day" in Chinese but love is to share and spread meaningfully.
